After Salman Khan lashed out against Ranbir Kapoor, a new entrant has come into the arena of the ongoing war of words. This time it’s Rajkumar Hirani, who's known to keep a low profile and doesn't interfere in ongoing controversies.
While promoting his film Race 3, Salman was asked what he thought about the Sanju trailer. To which, Salman commented that Sanjay Dutt himself should have played the role, at least for the latter years of his character. Meanwhile, the star of the film, Ranbir Kapoor, rebutted Salman by saying that such a thing had never been done in a biopic where the title character on whom the film is based is also being played by him or her. He added that to an audience member that would seem absurd.
Now, director Rajkumar Hirani has also chimed into the debate, reports Zoom. While promoting Sanju, in an interview with Filmibeat, the revered director was asked for his opinion on Salman’s statement and Hirani admitted that while he too did have a thought similar to Salman’s during pre-production days but there was a reason why he decided against it.
“The thought of Sanjay as his older self in the film's final portions had crossed my mind for a moment, but then I let it go as I felt it would be too abrupt and weird.” Rajkumar Hirani also added: “For one, you are seeing Ranbir as Sanju throughout most of the film, and then suddenly, you see Sanjay playing his older self, which would have automatically disconnected the public's link with the film," Hirani told Filmibeat.
Hope that ends the needless controversy.
