Salman Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali are to reunite after 19 years. According a report, Salman Khan wanted Bhansali to cast Katrina Kaif opposite him but Bhansali wanted Deepika Padukone.

The same report alleges that Janhvi Kapoor and Alia Bhatt were also considered but they have been deemed as ‘too young’ to star opposite Salman Khan who is 53 years old.

Bhansali has been known to work repeatedly with similar actors. He has worked with Priyanka Chopra thrice, Rani Mukerji twice and Ranveer Singh thrice. The upcoming film with Salman would be Bhansali’s fourth collaboration with Salman, his first three being Khamoshi: The Musical, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Saawariya.

Salman Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali worked together in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam in 1999. The film starred Aishwarya Rai and Ajay Devgn with Salman Khan and was a critical and commercial success. Post the film, however, Salman and Aishwarya, who were reportedly dating at the time, broke up and Salman never collaborated with Bhansali again. Bhansali did work with Aishwarya again in Devdas and Guzaarish.

For this upcoming film with Salman, Bhansali wants to cast Deepika Padukone, with whom he shares a very good relationship with. Deepika’s first film with Bhansali was Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. Following that, there have been two more films that Bhansali has worked on with Deepika Padukone, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat.

Since her advent in Bollywood in 2003, Katrina Kaif has worked with directors such as Subhash Ghai, Farah Khan, Rajkumar Santoshi, Zoya Akhtar and Yash Chopra,. However she has never really worked on a Bhansali film.

Perhaps Salman Khan could be the very reason this Katrina-Bhansali production happens for the very first time.
