Saif Ali Khan is rightly called the Nawab of Bollywood as he comes from the famous royal family of Pataudi. His father late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi was not only the Nawab of Pataudi but also the captain of the Indian Cricket team. Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi married the famous actress of her time Sharmila Tagore who embraced Islam at the time of her marriage. Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi was also related to the royal family of Bhopal as his mother Sajida Sultan was the Nawab Begum of Bhopal. After Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi’s death, Saif Ali Khan was declared the Nawab of Pataudi but the main responsibilities are still fulfilled by his sister Saba Ali Khan.
Saif Ali Khan recently revealed that although he had the title of Nawab of Pataudi the palace did not belong to him. After the death of his father Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, the Pataudi palace was rented out to a hotel chain. Saif Ali Khan had to pay a hefty amount to get his palace back which he earned through films. He said that people had fixed notions about nawabs but little did they know that even for the place he had supposedly inherited he had to pay the money he earned through films. According to Saif Ali Khan, he had a privileged upbringing and the family had some lands, but there was not much in inheritance.
Saif Ali Khan was born in the year 1970 to Sharmila Tagore and Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. He was born and raised in Mumbai as his mother Sharmila Tagore was working in the films. His father stopped playing cricket when Saif Ali Khan was four or five. While Nawam Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi stayed in Mumbai, his mother Sajida Sultan handled the matters of Pataudi and Bhopal estates. As she fell old, the family had to move to Delhi to live with her. Sharmila Tagore had revealed in an interview that moving to Delhi was a setback for the children especially her youngest daughter Soha Ali Khan.
