One of Imtiaz Ali’s greatest films, Love Aaj Kal has clocked 10 years and was one of the most memorable films in which Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone came together to share screen space. Now, the film’s director is all set to bring audiences the sequel of the film, Aaj Kal. It is interesting to note that the film’s sequel will see Saif Ali Khan’s daughter, Sara Ali Khan come on screen alongside Kartik Aaryan. While many have been speculating whether the film is sequel to the 2009 Saif Ali Khan starrer, the actor himself has opened up about it.
In a recent interview with a leading daily, Saif Ali Khan revealed that he doesn't see Aaj Kal as the continuation of his film Love Aaj Kal. He also said that he is hoping that the new film will have a different story. "I don’t see it as a continuation. If it had been a continuation, I think that’s a producer’s thought, and I probably would have produced it for her or something like that. That’s just not how it has come about. Imtiaz should probably try and make one of these every 10 years, calling it Aaj Kal with different actors! I’m hoping it is a different story, though," Saif said.
He went on to clarify that Sara being cast in the film doesn’t really make much of a difference to him as he doesn't see the profession as a legacy. He said, "If Sara is a part of it, I see no relation between the two movies. Maybe that’s because I don’t view the profession as legacy-based. I just think she is a really interesting personality on screen. Sara is very smart, and has her own lovely ideas about things; so it’s refreshing to talk to her."

In these ten years after Love Aaj Kal, I see that the process of a love relationship has changed dramatically. The way young people think of relationship now, I could not have predicted ten years back. It’s fascinating and very inspiring. #DineshVijan #SaifAliKhan @deepikapadukone #RishiKapoor #GiselliMonteiro @ipritamofficial @kamil_irshad_official @erosnow @maddockfilms
He further added that, "I think, if anything, it’s Imtiaz’s franchise and his legacy that perhaps he is taking forward. I was just a part of it. I don’t think LAK is my legacy at all. I don’t think of it as Sara taking the franchise forward [either]..."
Before Love Aaj Kal, Imtiaz had given audiences Jab We Met in 2007, which turned out to be a huge success. Following the success of Jab We Met, the audience had a lot of expectations from the director's next film Love Aaj Kal. And he didn't disappoint. Imtiaz is all set to bring Aaj Kal to the theatres on February 14, 2020. The shooting of the film was recently wrapped up.
