Saadia's Side: For Deepika Padukone, With Love
Deepika Padukone recently revealed her first look as Romi Bhatia for the film 83 with a caption that did not go very well with some of her fans.
Deepika Padukone is not only a head-turner but also a newsmaker. I know she does not do it on purpose. It just happens. For a woman as beautiful and successful as her, even her trip to a grocery store should come as news (though I wonder if she ever takes those trips for buying tomatoes and onions). Even her walking down the street like a swan and simply turn back with a glance of love should enough to shoot everyone down dead. Be it holding husband Ranveer Singh’s award and smiling while still asleep or simply attending a student protest at JNU, everything comes as a headline.
Deepika Padukone herself is an industry
The countless fashion and entertainment journalists whose livelihood depends on Deepika Padukone’s daily looks is another story. The woman herself is an industry who is running many livelihoods in one way or the other. And to be honest, why not! The sixteen-year-old Bangalore girl who moved to Mumbai to pursue her dreams and become one of the biggest names in the industry without any godfather in the industry certainly deserves accolades and praise.
Deepika Padukone has always maintained her stance as a feminist
Deepika Padukone has always been vocal about her feminist views and thoughts. Even the marriage did not change her as a person and she continued being who she always was; fiercely strong and independent, a woman with a mind of her own which was not influenced by any external pressure.
Film production is the new feather in Ms. Padukone’s cap
Recently, Deepika Padukone proudly sported another feather in her cap which was becoming a film producer. After Chhapaak, Deepika Padukone is producing the film 83 in collaboration with Kabir Khan and many others where her husband Ranveer Singh is playing the main lead. Considering how most of the films that Ranveer Singh acts in are commercially successful, we can safely speculate that Deepika Padukone’s film 83 will probably wipe away the lows low that came with her not-so-successful film Chhapaak from which Deepika Padukone had high expectations. But never mind, it is the film business. 83 will surely be among the biggest films of the year 2020.
Deepika Padukone recently revealed her first look for the film 83
While Ranveer Singh has played the character of the Indian Cricket Team captain Kapil Dev, Deepika Padukone is playing the character of Kapil Dev’s wife Romi Bhatia. Although we knew it all along and had also been seeing Ranveer Singh’s pictures as Kapil Dev where he could be seen deeply drowned in the depth of his character, Deepika Padukone’s look was still unknown. The wait was over when Deepika Padukone posted a picture of her from the film 83 giving a glimpse into her character. Needless to say, Deepika Padukone looked stunning and delightful like always, greatly resembling the real-life Romi Bhatia. Everything seemed perfect.
But hey, there is a caption too
However, what particularly caught my(and many other fans’) attention was the caption of this post which said,
‘To be able to play a small part in a film that captures one of the most iconic moments in sporting history has been an absolute honour.
Ive seen very closely the role a wife plays in the success of her husband’s professional and personal aspirations in my mother and 83 for me in many ways is an ode to every woman who puts her husband’s dream before her own...#thisis83’
Isn’t it ironic that Deepika Padukone is glorifying the broken dreams women are left with after marriage?
All the best for your film Ms Padukone but isn’t this caption ironic that you are glorifying the boulevard of broken dreams in case of most of the housewives who have killed their dreams just to nurture their husbands’? Coming from a feminist icon who has always stood up for women empowerment (minus your role in Padmaavat, of course), these words lionize the misery that many intelligent women have undergone over countless years. It also sounds particularly disturbing when Deepika Padukone, who proudly speaks up about maintaining her own identity since getting married, is making her audiences romanticise a woman’s broken dreams because her husband’s had to be prioritized.
Being your loyal fan, I do deserve to register my grievance and disappointment
Dear Deepika Padukone, being your loyal fan over the years, I feel more hurt than ever because I have known your work and life since you joined the industry. I know you are a role model for all the young girls who aspire to become like you when they grow up. Most of the girls all over the world know whom to look up to when it comes to reaching the stars and striving for their dreams every single day. The love you have received from your fans over the years is unparalleled. When they shower you with all their love and admiration, I feel it is also their right to bring their complaints forward to you when they are not in the best of their spirits.
At the end of the day, it is all about the love that they have for you and you have for them. Consider this a fan’s token of love, please.
