Taking the bus to work and for leisure will get far more interesting now as Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) plans to install free Wi-Fi at 100 bus stops, reported an article in gulfnews.com.
Commuters will not only be able to sip their coffee or tea from the small kiosks that will be available inside the bus stops, while browsing the internet or paying bills through the smart kiosk but they will also be able to get virtually all jobs done, from paying utility bills, topping up mobile balance, paying credit card bills, remitting cash home, topping up international mobile balance for visitors as well as booking air tickets!
Atleast 50 of these Smart Bus Shelters will be ready by December, and 50 more will be ready in January, said the report. Dubai currently had 656 AC bus stops. 100 of them will be selected from some of the busiest locations and be converted to Smart Shelters.
Commuters can purchase new Nol cards through the kiosk, while also topping up their Nol balance. The free Wi-Fi however, will be available only for a limited period, to ensure there is no misuse of the facility. Users can enter their mobile number and email id on the Wi-Fi UAE website, which will lead them to a link to connect to the Wi-Fi.
