Bollywood actress Richa Chadha has starred in numerous movies ever since her debut in 2008 with Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! Over time, she has made a name for herself with her performances in Gangs of Wasseypur, Fukrey, Masaan, Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram Leela and Section 375. Not only has the star worked in some of the most serious movies, she’s also been very vocal when it comes to social issues. Richa has also experimented with comic roles and now, she’s planning to venture into yet another medium, stand-up comedy.
Richa will be making her stand-up debut with other debutants such as actress Taapsee Pannu and Indian politician and writer, Shashi Tharoor in Amazon’s original series called One Mic Stand. Speaking to Hindustan Times ahead of her appearance, the actress shared why she decided to take up the act. She said, “I like to experiment and when this opportunity came along, I thought ‘Let’s see how it goes down’. They said there’s a show where a celebrity will have to be mentored and it turned out to be very challenging and fun experience. I used to be a prankster when I was young. I used to make fun of friends, playing pranks and pulling each other’s leg, but I haven’t done stand-up comedy.”
The actress was also asked if she found some of the jokes made by stand-up comedians, offensive. She explained, “I am more offended by some of the things that the politicians say. Someone just said that Pakistan and China are releasing toxic fumes leading to pollution in India. Politicians are giving such competition to stand-up comics. The stand-up comedians are coughing in anger and. Someone just said there is gold in cow dung.” Apart from One Mic Stand, Richa will be next seen in Shakeela and Panga – in which she will share screen space with Kangana Ranaut and Neena Gupta.
