Restaurant Review: MINA Brasserie
The outdoor terrace

This is a brunch that is diametrically opposite to some of the more popular notions of a typical Friday brunch in Dubai.  And what’s that? Loud music, a garrulous crowd, unlimited food and a general fun vibe. But MINA brasserie is different. It’s posh, refined and classic. So whether you want to go for it or not, depends entirely on your taste and mood on a Friday afternoon.

That said, the relatively new MINA Brasserie is definitely a fab addition to the already bustling DIFC restaurant scene. Celebrity, award-winning chef Michael Mina returns with a brand new concept that has all the signs of being a hit. The evenings are a pleasure and I would recommend it for a perfect date night. Lively, bustling and dynamic, it has that restless energy and music that is so appealing for a great night out. The décor and interiors (and outdoors) are lovely especially the little bonsai, hanging lights, beautiful blue furniture, a golden bar and lounge seating that add for a unique feel. Simply put, it’s as good for a fun evening with friends as it is for a business lunch or dinner or a relaxed brunch.

The menu, frankly, doesn’t offer too many surprises but emphasis has been made to get the classics right. What stands out are the freshness of the ingredients, be it the meat or seafood.  The Tuna tartare lives up to its fame – the pine nuts, garlic, mint and sesame-habenero oil giving it a special twist. The oak grilled octopus (also available in the seafood platter in the brunch menu) is a must-try. I am not an Octopus fan at all but this one made me go for another bite. We have to say the same about the burrata too. As we said, the classics and the basics have been done right. Other recommendations: the market salad, Norwegian Salmon and Smoked Beef Short Ribs. Familiar stuff but great and stands out because of its refined elegance in presentation and flavours.

MINA Brasserie gets the balance right and that’s what we like about it. Nothing is over the top – from design to menu to ambiance. It has the right expert touch and in an area, that’s bursting at the seams with hip n happening destinations, this classic touch will never go out of fashion.
