Restaurant Review: Goan Shack

Enjoy the authentic Goan cuisine right here in Dubai
Restaurant Review: Goan Shack
Goan Shack

Located bang in the centre of Bur Dubai, Goan Shack took us by surprise. As you step in, you leave the buzzing city behind and enter a fun friendly restaurant with comfy furniture and quirky and colourful interiors. The palm trees and beachy wallpapers are in place to remind you that you are about to embark on a journey of authentic Goan delights. The restaurant also has a live band that entertains guests throughout the evening and performs English, Hindi and Goan tracks that really set the mood.
We started the meal by sampling prawns stuffed papad that had a delicious stuffing of mildly spiced prawns in deep fired pappadums and were appetising. I then tried the fish tikka that had chunks of boneless fish in a spicy marinade and were succulent and flavourful. For the mains, we tried Goan specialities such as the mouth-watering chicken cafreal that was pan fried and coated in tangy green masalas and was complemented well by soft pav breads. Next up was the Goan dal fry that had luscious lentils cooked with onions and tomatoes and tempered with flavoured spices. We ended the meal on a sweet note by indulging in bebenca, a traditional Goan dessert that was a layered pudding made with flour, eggs, sugar, coconut milk and aromatic cardamom powder. My friend was excited to try out the cream caramel which was a decadent custard delight topped with rich caramel and did not disappoint.
Goan Shack is a must-visit as it truly reflects the vibrant spirit of Goa and makes for a great night out with friends.
