The endorsement was for a contraceptive brand that he used to be a brand ambassador for!
Though rumours said that he lost Durex because of his steep endorsement fee, Forbes has learnt that his marriage to Deepika Padukone also had a big role to play in his loss. Quoting market sources, Forbes reported that five years after Ranveer was roped in as brand ambassador for the condom brand, consumer goods firm Reckitt Benckiser, its parent company, has let its contract with the Bollywood actor lapse with no plans to renew it.
While Reckitt Benckiser didn’t reply to an email sent by Forbes India, sources close to Singh confirmed the move. “Both agreed to part ways amicably,” said the source aware of the development. Though a steeper endorsement fee could be a potential reason for the breakup, Singh’s marital status might have had a bearing on the decision to end the association, the source told Forbes.
The axing of Ranveer Singh after five years had come as a shock to many of his fans. But if he has been axed because he is now married, we all feel that it is somewhat unfair to him. The company hasn't announced anyone as a replacement yet.
