Ranveer Singh is NOT Replacing Shah Rukh Khan in the Don Franchise
Ranveer Singh was said to be taking over the Don franchise for the third part of the series
‘Ranveer Singh replaces Shah Rukh Khan’ screamed the headlines a few days ago. There was tremendous buzz that Ranveer Singh, post the stupendous success of Simbaa and Gully Boy was the choice to play the lead in Don 3, the sequel to Don which starred Shah Rukh Khan. However, it seems once again a case of fire without any smoke. Strangely, neither Shah Rukh Khan nor Ranveer Singh nor Excel Entertainment issue a statement.
Now, here is the truth. Most of those associated with the franchise couldn’t stop laughing. Some who didn’t know better took the announcement seriously. While Farhan Akhtar the architect of the franchise refuses to comment a source very close to Farhan speaks up, “Where did this come from? Ranveer Singh taking over Don? It sounds like an over-enthusiastic publicity gambit. No one except Shah Rukh Khan will do Don 3, if and when it happens. He is the face and brand ambassador of the franchise. Right now, Farhan doesn’t even have an idea for the plot in Don 3. People are jumping the gun in the hope that Farhan and Shah Rukh will react. Sorry, not happening.”
The first part of Don released in 2006 with Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra in the lead. It was a remake of the 70s thriller starring Amitabh Bachchan. The second part came a few years ago which was also a big hit and ever since, there has been talk of the third part.
