Who was Qandeel Baloch?
Not many people knew that Qandeel Baloch belonged to a humble family in Dera Ghazi Khan. Her real name was Fauzia Azeem. Coming from a family of eight siblings, Qandeel got married when she was very young and also had a son. The marriage could not last for long and she decided to help her family in whatever way she could. She was determined to change the fate of her humble family and took her first job as a bus hostess.

This news also reached Qandeel’s brother Waseem who decided to murder his own sister when she was visiting the family. Qandeel Baloch was killed in sleep in the name of honor by her own brother. According to the accused murderer, he could not take what people spoke against Qandeel. Probably, he forgot that she also brought bread and butter to the family. Qandeel’s old parents were devastated and decided to fight for justice.

Qandeel Baloch’s parents decide to pardon the murderer
According to a report by Dawn News, Qandeel Baloch’s parents decided to take their case back. They declared a pardon for the culprit because they wanted to wrap up the murder. This decision was criticized as people considered it was against basic justice and human rights. However, Qandeel Baloch’s parents' poverty could not let them pursue their daughter’s case which was also against their own son. There were also security concerns for her old parents when the accused was released as living in the same house with him could also be risky for the parents.
This is the 2nd affidavit Qandeel’s parents have submitted. First one was dismissed & only Haq nawaz got the bail. Court has the power after amendment in PPC sec 311 to continue with the trial even after pardon by heirs. Now prosecution has to fight hard to seek justice for QB https://t.co/S5NHdOC0Qu pic.twitter.com/w6bZ7fygLO— Nighat Dad (@nighatdad) August 21, 2019
Why did Qandeel Baloch’s parents let the murderers get away with their crime?
According to a report, Qandeel Baloch’s people soon exhausted all their resources on the case and did not even have enough money to attend the court hearings. She was the main bred-winner of the family and her death left her parents miserable. Qandeel’s brother Waseem, according to an interview, completely negated that he had murdered her. He considered himself innocent and not guilty of the crime.
Qandeel Baloch’s lawyers were disappointed that the case keeps lingering. One of the main accused culprits Mufti Abdul Qavi did not have to remain in the lockups for long. The court hearings would linger and the justice would remain unserved.
That’s exactly we have been fearing, justice delayed is justice denied. When you are poor, disabled, old, dependent on children, threatened by remaining sons, this was bound to happen. #qandeelBaloch https://t.co/psRXK5QS4w— Nighat Dad (@nighatdad) August 21, 2019
The court rejects Qandeel’s parents’ plea for pardon
However, the court rejected their plea to pardon the murderer and this came as a huge relief for most human rights watchers. Pakistani Minister Fawad Chaudhry also expressed his happiness over the court’s decision,

Qandeel Baloch became a symbol of resistance against patriarchy after her death. It was only after hse died that the people realized there was a lot more to the videos of this girl who was chatting candidly in her bubbly way. She challenged the norms of the society and hypocrisy that filled the aura of self-righteousness among the masses. Her voice was shut down by the ones who could not handle her truth. Her murder came as a shock for even those who did not love her. Although Qandeel’s old parents have tried their level best to their dead daughter the delay in justice and poverty has crumbled them down. Qandeel Baloch was killed three years ago but could not be silenced till now.
