Priyanka Chopra Shares Her Thoughts on Zaira Wasim’s Decision to Quit Bollywood
Priyanka Chopra Jonas plays Zaira Wasim’s mother’s role in The Sky is Pink. Here’s what PC said about the young actress
Zaira Wasim, who has appeared in prominent roles in blockbuster films like Dangal and Secret Superstar, will be next be seen in Priyanka Chopra’s upcoming film The Sky is Pink, which recently had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). This will be Zaira’s last performance on screen as the young actress announced a few months ago that she had quit Bollywood, saying it interfered with her religious beliefs. She has also not been part of the film’s promotions. While the Sky is Pink's team supported Zaira’s decision, many others trolled and criticised her. Priyanka Chopra, the lead actress and co-producer of The Sky is Pink, has now spoken up for the first time about Zaira’s decision. In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, she said,
"It’s a personal choice. Who are we to dictate what someone should and shouldn’t do? She is an amazing actor who has done incredible work. We will always wish her the best."
Earlier the makers of the film had also released a statement, which said, "Zaira is an exceptional artiste and we are lucky to have had her play Aisha Chaudhury in our film, The Sky Is Pink. She has been a complete professional all through the shoot of the film, which concluded earlier this month. This is a purely personal decision, which she has taken after much thought and we will be supportive of her in every way - now and always."
The Sky is Pink, directed by Shonali Bose, is a love story based on the real-life story of motivational speaker Aisha Chaudhary’s parents, portrayed by Priyanka and Farhan Akhtar, with Rohit Saraf playing Aisha’s brother's role. Aisha, the author My Little Epiphanies, was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis and passed away in 2015. Priyanka Chopra is playing the role of her mother Aditi, who has to deal with the emotional and financial problems resulting from her daughter's terminal illness. The Sky Is Pink was appreciated at TIFF and will hit the screens in India on 11th October.
