Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta and Others Express Grief at the Actor-Kathak Master Veeru Krishnan's Demise

Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta and other Bollywood actors express grief for actor-kathak master Veeru Krishnan who appeared in films like Raja Hindustani and Akela Hum Akele Tum

Actor and dance trainer Veeru Krishnan passed away on Saturday, 7th September, in Mumbai. He appeared in supporting roles in a number of hit Bollywood films, such as Raja Hindustani, Akele Hum Akele Tum, Dulhe Raja and Ishq. He also provided Kathak training to Bollywood actresses such as Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif and Juhi Chawla. On hearing the news of his demise, several Bollywood celebs took to social media to express their shock and grief. Priyanka Chopra -- who is currently at the Toronto International Film Festival for the world premiere of her film, The Sky Is Pink  -- tweeted, “You taught me to dance when I was two left feet. Your patience and passion for dance was so infectious that each one of us not only learned Kathak, but so much more from you. You will always be remembered Guruji.”

Actress and beauty queen Lara Dutta Bhupathi also took to Twitter to mourn Veeru’s death. She posted, “This is very sad news indeed. Prayers and heartfelt condolences to Guruji’s family. He really was an institution and his passion for kathak and patience with his students made him an exemplary teacher.”

Actress and Suneil Shetty’s daughter Athiya Shetty also reacted to the news on Twitter, “Omg, so sad and shocked to hear this. RIP guruji thank you for teaching us— hard work, discipline and to truly love the form of Kathak.”

Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta wrote, “Thank you for all the laughs Veeru. May God rest your soul in peace.”

Television actor Karanvir Bohra, retweeting Priyanka’s post, wrote: “So true @priyankachopra we will miss his #chilla days.... Sand the #pooja days.” Retweeting Lara Dutta’s tweet, he said, “He was and will always remain a legend.” On his Instagram page, Karan posted a video clip of his guru, with this heartfelt message, “I'm really sad to state that my darling Guruji #panditvirukrishnan has left for his heavenly abode...I was going to put up a post on teachers day thanking him and other teachers, little did I know that this angel will leave his body and I will never get to see him. We have learnt so much from him. Teachers like him were very few. @bombaysunshine and I were just talking today in the morning that we would @twinbabydiaries for Kathak next time they were in India. This is a great loss for all of us. But I know he is in a happier place.”
