The iconic red sole

Christian Louboutin is known for his iconic red sole in women’s shoes which he started designed in 1993. The red sole is like Christian Louboutin’s signature on an autograph book. The design occurred to him in a moment of no conscious effort when he painted the sole of a prototype shoe with his assistant’s crimson red nail polish. According to the designer, ‘I thought, 'Oh my god! Red soles are so flirtatious,' and my customers asked me not to stop.’
