Priyanka Chopra and Jennifer Lopez Dare to Bare in Plunging Necklines

Priyanka Chopra’s look for the Grammy Awards has become talk of the town for obvious reasons. She sported a look similar to JLo and we decide who did the look justice

A plunging neckline isn’t the easiest look to pull off and nor is it everyone’s cup of tea. You’d have to be very confident about your body or have impeccable style to be able to pull off the look. Plunging necklines made an appearance during a number of ramp showcases at London, Milan, Paris and New York fashion weeks and continue to reign supreme in the fashion scene. Plunging necklines can vary in depth and have also been spotted at the back of any given garment. While some are tasteful, there are some that quite literally take the plunge.

Now, after Grammy Awards on Sunday night, the plunging neckline became the talk of the town. Why, you may ask? Reason being, that Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra arrived on the red carpet in a daring number and the look has been the topic of conversation far and wide. Priyanka Chopra’s sense of style has also become the talk of the town as she has come to be known for her bold sartorial looks and her experimental outfits. To say that her style has evolved over time would be a mere understatement.

While Priyanka Chopra often leaves heads turning, she made an appearance at the Grammy Awards 2020 where she most certainly left heads turning, but for all the wrong reasons. For the prestigious awards show, Priyanka Chopra was clad in a white Ralph & Russo gown which featured a long train and walked the red carpet hand in hand with her hubby, Nick Jonas. The train was adorned with a floral print and the rest of the dress was adorned with intricate embroidery, diamond encrusted pieces and the statement fringed sleeves.

The focal point of her outfit however, was the plunging neck line which went all the way down her naval and showed off her belly piercing. Really not a good look in our books. For starters, there was too much going on. The overly plunging neck line, the fringed detailing on the sleeves and the elaborate trail just didn’t come together and didn’t really work in the starlet’s favour. The encrusted diamonte detailing gave the dress too much of a wedding dress feel and the belly piercing is just so 2009. Priyanka Chopra had her hair styled in sleek and straight and parted to the side. She accessorized with lots of diamond rings, subtle smokey eye makeup and a pink pout.

Now, if you’ve been playing close attention, then you would remember a similar dress sported by Jennifer Lopez. Many have been comparing the two looks, saying that Priyanka Chopra’s look was inspired completely by JLo. While the prints, colour and fabric are completely different, the only feature that is similar is the deep, plunging neckline.

JLo’s dress for the Grammy Awards became iconic as she sported it 20 years ago and repeated it once again for the Versace show last year. The Versace dress features a tropical print and a statement jewel that brings it together. The sheer dress also features a front open, thigh-high slit and full sleeves and she teamed the dress with a pair of sparkly silver heels. The Jenny From The Block singer had her hair styled in a high ponytail and opted for minimal makeup; making the plunging neckline the focal point of her look. She rounded off the look with dainty pearl drop earrings and you can just imagine the jaws that were left dropping when she graced the red carpet.

Now when it comes to comparing the two looks, while they bear resemblance only with the plunging neckline, everything else about the looks are different; from the colours, to the styling and the makeup. But sorry girls, neither of the looks get a stamp of approval from us this time around.
