Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra -- whose last Bollywood project was the movie Jai Gangaajal by Prakash Jha -- is ready to make her comeback in Hindi cinema, with The Sky is Pink, directed by award-winning filmmaker Shonali Bose (of Margarita with a Straw fame). Priyanka will be seen in the movie alongside Farhan Akhtar, Rohit Saraf and Zaira Wasim. PeeCee has also produced the movie, along with Siddharth Roy Kapur and Ronnie Screwvala, under the banner of RSVP Movies. The first look of the film is currently doing the rounds on the internet. In a sunset photo at a beach, the four lead characters are seen standing together in casual beachwear, with their backs to the camera.
The Sky is Pink will have its world premiere on 13th September at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2019. It is the only film from Asia which has been selected to premiere at the festival. The festival organisers also tweeted the first look of the film along with the names of the director and the lead cast. The movie is based on the life of the late author and motivational speaker, Aisha Chaudhary (played by Zaira Wasim), who passed away at the age of 19 due to pulmonary fibrosis. The TIFF website has shared the following synopsis:
“A recently deceased teenage daughter narrates the story of her mother and father’s poignant, affecting, and inspiring romance, in this unexpectedly humorous love story from Shonali Bose, inspired by late Indian author Aisha Chaudhary and her family.”
Priyanka and Farhan are playing the roles of Aisha’s parents in the film, which was shot in Mumbai and London. Speaking about the film’s story, Priyanka said that she connected with it from the minute she heard it and “in Shonali's hands, it's been crafted into a moving, beautiful film that will renew our faith in love and life." This will be Zaira Wasim’s last Bollywood flick as the young actress recently announced that she was quitting the industry due to personal reasons. The makers released a statement supporting Zaira, stating, “Zaira is an exceptional artiste and we are lucky to have had her play Aisha Chaudhury in our film, 'The Sky Is Pink'. She has been a complete professional all through the shoot of the film.” The Sky is Pink will be released in India on 11th October 2019.
