Shooting for the big cricket film ’83 in England has proved a complicated affair for the very talented actor Pankaj Tripathi. He has broken three ribs after a fall and is in acute pain. Yet, the show must go on, and is going on. “Pain, there is for sure. But we all know that without pain there is no gain. More painful than the pain was not knowing why the pain was there. Once I got to know what it was, I was fine,” says Pankaj putting up a brave front when we ask him about his injury.
The worst part of the injury for Pankaj is losing out on the lead man Ranveer Singh’s effusive hugs. “Even the slightest touch makes me wince in pain. So I am regretfully letting go of all the joyful hugs that I usually get from Ranveer,” laughs Pankaj who plays the manager of the cricket team captained by Kapil Dev (played by Ranveer Singh) which won at the 1983 Cricket World Cup defeating West Indies. Pankaj says he gets to play no cricket in the film although he would have loved to.
Over the last couple of years, Pankaj Tripathi has firmly established himself as one of the most sought-after supporting actors in Bollywood. His performances in films like Bareilly ki Barfi and Newton have made him hugely popular among the critics and the masses. He was last seen in the Kartik Aaryan flick Luka Chuppi. He will also be seen in the second season of Sacred Games.
