Pankaj Tripathi, who has portrayed important roles in many hit Bollywood films, recently appeared alongside Manoj Bajpayee on The Kapil Sharma Show. The actor got emotional on screen as he narrated an incident that took place several years before he worked with his idol Manoj Bajpayee in Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur.
In response to a question by host Kapil about taking Manoj’s slippers, Pankaj gave a detailed account of the time he was working as a kitchen staff supervisor in a hotel, where Manoj had checked in. He said,
"I got a call that Manoj ji is here. I used to do theatre back then so the kitchen staff knew it. I told them that whenever he orders anything from his room, I’ll be the one to take it. So I went there, met bhaiyya, said ‘Pranaam, even I am into theatre’, touched his feet and left the room. Next day he checked out and left for the airport. But he left a hawai chappal behind. The housekeeping supervisor said ‘Are! Your Manoj bhai is gone but he left his chappal here’. I said don’t submit it, give it to me.”
The audience laughed as Pankaj made his confession while Manoj gave him a warm hug when he got teary-eyed. The actor explained he had taken the slippers was because he aspired to be like Manoj one day, saying, “Why? If like Eklavya I, too, could put my feet in his slipper.” Pankaj made his debut with a small role in the movie Run. He has now starred in 60 television shows and over 40 films, such as Stree, Bareilly Ki Barfi, Super 30, Newton, Luka Chuppi and various others. Pankaj was last seen in the season 2 of Netflix web series Sacred Games. His upcoming films include Angrezi Medium, 83 and Kargil Girl.
