Ishq Zahe Naseeb and Barfi Laddu

With Ramadan nearing a close and Eid in sight, Pakistani channels are actively ready to launch new shows.  While Hum TV is being particularly tight-lipped regarding their new shows and the full schedule of new content has not been released, there are several shows for which the promos have actively gone on air.  Let’s discuss the shows to look out for!

Here are top 5 Pakistani TV shows to watch out for:

1.Ishq Zahe Naseeb – Hum TV

Ishq Zahe Naseeb is believed to be the show that will fill Ranjha Ranjha Kardi’s time slot. A Momina Duraid production, directed by Farooq Rind and featuring a talented ensemble cast including Zahid Ahmed, Yumna Zaidi, Sonya Hussain, Sami Khan and Zarnish Khan, Ishq Zahe Naseeb is a show that cannot be ignored based on star power alone.  Add to that the unusual and strikingly different plot and Hum TV has the recipe for success. While little is known about the roles Zarnish and Sami play, the serial seems to focus on the issue of mental health, namely on the psyche of Zahid Ahmed’s character, a man who has split personality disorder. In the promos, we are witness to his marriage to Sonya Hussein, while also being privy to his alter persona as a woman. What makes this twist even more interesting is that it seems Yumna Zaidi is playing his alter-ego. This show has all the makings of a blockbuster if handled correctly.

2.Barfi Laddu – ARY Digital

Outwardly, Barfi Laddu seems to be yet another over the top comedy. However, written by Dr. Younis Butt and starring talented comedic actors like Ali Safina, Sumbal Iqbal and Uroosa Siddiqui, the show screams of potential. Centered around a wedding theme, the show is an entertainer to watch out for.

3.Gulo Gulzar – ARY Digital

A Hamayun Saeed production, Six Sigma shows generally boast of quality. Gul O Gulzar stars Saboor Aly as an arrogant, narcissistic girl who desires more than anything to escape her poor background. The drama also stars Kinza Hashmi, who plays a more down-to-earth character. While Saboor’s role is one we’ve seen many times in dramas over the years, the presentation of the story in the promos make the viewer sit up and take notice. Let’s hope this is not a case of old wine in a new bottle and offers something new.

4.Hasad – ARY Digital

Hasad promises to be a show riddled with misery and sadness from the get-go - yet, the cast is what stands out. Starring Minal Khan, Shehroze Sabwari, Noor Hassan, Arij Fatyma and Saba Faisal, Hasad’s promos show Minal and Shehroze as a happy couple, followed by Minal alone after the loss of her husband. Hasad will also be Arij Fatyma’s first negative role, which will be interesting to watch.

5.Bhool – ARY Digital

Starring Saheefa Jabbar and Affan Waheed in lead roles, the duo will be playing characters that span years. Going from college students developing a relationship, the duo will go on to play parents to Saboor Aly. While little is known of the specific story, the actors and director promise that the audience will see a powerful, well-written story that will connect with all ages.

At present, these are the shows that have been announced. Post-Eid, viewers will have a barrage of new shows to pick from.
