Pakistani Singer, Adnan Sami now an Indian citizen. The Pakistani singer who has been trying for Indian citizenship for almost a decade now, has finally been granted his wish – the government of India accepted his request and has accorded him citizenship on humanitarian grounds. In an interview with The Times of India, the singer had suggested how he feels at home in India where he has been living and working since 2001 on a visitor’s and professional visa. After the Pakistani government denied to renew his passport, Sami had requested for Indian citizenship.
The media dubbed this development as a ‘New Year’s Gift’ for Adnan Sami who is married to Roya, after divorcing his second wife Saba Galadari a few years ago. This shift is also expected to do wonders for Sami’s career in Bollywood where has had a hugely successful run. Last year, he sang a number in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, the biggest hit of 2016.
Adnan himself is over the moon with this twist in his life. Adding his own bit on the intolerance debate he had said that he never felt any discrimination in India over the years he had been living there. He further said that he feels one with the people of India, he adores Mumbai and its people who have accepted him with open arms and love. The singer also took to Twitter to celebrate his citizenship. “A New beginning… A New Feeling… A New Belonging… A New Love Affair… A New Country… JAI HIND!” He also gave his regards to Home Minister Rajnath singh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving his long cherished dream.
