This year the Pakistani film industry is mostly dominated by romcoms. There is Sheheryaar Munawar and Maya Ali’s Parey Hat Love, Farhan Saeed and Urwa Hocane’s Tich Button, Humayun Saeed’s Love You Jatta and Hareem Farooq and Ali Rehman Khan’s Heer Maan Ja. However, amidst the romcom floods, we thankfully have a slightly different taste for the audiences.
According to the trailer of Laal Kabootar, “He’s looking for a way out of the city. But his only escape is through a woman looking for revenge”. Produced by Nehr Ghar Films, the film is directed by Kamal Khan and the screenplay is done by Ali Abbas Naqvi.
Starring Mansha Pasha and Ahmed Ali Akbar, the film promises to be a gripping tale of a bunch of runaways and violence mired in a convoluted plot. Ahmed Ali Akbar plays a desperate young man who cannot wait to go to Dubai. Mansha Pasha makes quite an impression as a young woman trapped in this plot. While it’s difficult to discern the exact plot, there is enough to keep you engaged throughout.
The trailer contains some explicit language and violence that might be triggering for young audiences. The trailer states that it is meant for mature audiences only. Point taken!
Could this be the beginning of a new trend in Pakistani films? The gritty, PG18 thrillers that make for great viewing and become cult classics ten years down the line? We would have to watch the film and see. So far the trailer looks promising. The film releases on March 22, 2019, and has already got some good buzz on social media.
Fanbloodytastic! Best of luck to the team #LaalKabootar https://t.co/1EuccKKPlX
