Robert De Niro’s Ex-Assistant Wants Him to Dismiss Case Alleging She Watched Friends on the Job

Robert De Niro is embroiled in a legal battle with his ex-assistant on grounds that she used the company’s money for personal use

Robert De Niro is, undoubtedly, one of the biggest stars in Hollywood. He has starred in a number of films throughout his career, his latest one being The Irishman – directed by Martin Scorsese. While Robert is a big name in the movie business, he has been embroiled in a legal battle since the past few months. Robert’s former employee is asking a New York court to toss a complaint filed against her by her ex-boss, claiming it as unlawful retaliation because she had threatened to file a suit, before the ex-boss filed one against her.

Robert’s production house, Canal Productions, filed a $6 million lawsuit against former employee, Graham Chase Robinson and alleged that she not only abused company credit cards, but also binge-watched Netflix while on the clock. Robinson fired back with gender discrimination and retaliation suit alleging that Robert didn’t believe that men should treat women as equal. She added that she was subjected to sexual comments and was also underpaid. On the other hand, Robert’s lawyer Tom Harvey called her allegations “beyond absurd.” Now, Robinson is asking the court to either pause Robert’s suit or throw it out in favour of the one she filed in New York federal court.

She also wants the court to strike the requested damages as excessive and toss the claims related to binge-watching. Robinson’s document submitted to the court reads, “These inflammatory accusations are scandalous and prejudicial —  so much so that they ‘went viral.’ The allegations are also irrelevant to Canal’s claims: There is no case law holding that purportedly watching television during work gives rise to liability under any of the legal theories Canal advances.” The document also argues that the fraud claim should be dismissed because its “inherently implausible” that Robinson took almost half a year off because Robert insisted that she be available around the clock and Canal was “keenly aware” of her schedule.
