Shah Rukh Khan’s highly-anticipated espionage thriller original series for Netflix India, Bard of Blood, will be available on the streaming service from Friday, 27th September. The Red Chillies Entertainment project, directed by Ribhi Dasgupta (of Te3n fame), stars Emraan Hashmi as Indian spay Adonis (aka Kabir Anand), Vineet Kumar Singh as sleeper agent Veer Singh and Sobhita Dhulipala as analyst Ishaa Khanna. It also stars Jaideep Ahlawat as the main antagonist and Kirti Kulhari, Amyra Dastur, Rajit Kapoor Sohum Shah and Danish Hussain in vital roles. The series is based on Bilal Siddiqi’s 2015 book of the same name. Early reviews are out and the critics have mostly good things to say about the spy thriller, calling it “binge-worthy.”

Saibal Chatterjee of has given it a 3.5 rating and said, “Bard of Blood may not be consistently pulse-racing fare and parts of it may seem predictable, but with Hashmi, in an admirably restrained way, etching out a believable saviour figure, the series is never less than engaging.” She highlights how Mayank Tewari's writing “could have done with some humour” but praises the series as it “does not shy away from dwelling upon India's meddling in Balochistan.”

Gautaman Bhaskaran of News18 has called the show “thrilling and blood curdling” and praised the director, saying, “Dasgupta uses Shakespeare's most memorable tragedies most effectively to convey pain, pathos, victory and defeat.”

Aishwarya Vasudevan of DNA opines how “adapting this book to a Netflix original was the perfect launchpad for Shah Rukh Khan's production Red Chillies Entertainment in the digital space.” Anvita Singh of The Indian Express reveals how each episode ends on a cliffhanger, which she says is the “oldest trick in the world” but works well for Bard of Blood. She wasn't very happy with some of the special effects though and said "those moments stick out like a thorn and hurt more." As per reports, the show has been created with a budget of INR 50 crore to be at par with international production quality. It will be available to Netflix subscribers from tomorrow.
