Political dramas have always been of interest when it comes to Bollywood films. However, more often than not, such films have managed to spark some kind of controversy from relevant political figures, from the audiences or the censor boards. Regardless, nothing has ever really stopped such films from being release on the silver screen. Likewise, when Thackeray released earlier this year, fans flocked to cinema house to see what the movie will cover. Plus, everyone wanted to see how Nawazuddin Siddiqui would essay the role of the former Shiv Sena leader, Bal Thackeray.
While the film did receive mix reviews, Sanjay Raut did receive a lot of praise for the story he had written - which is why he is currently speeding up his work for the sequel of the film. Sanjay who is also producing the film started to work on Thackeray II, the title of which had already been registered with the Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA) a few months ago. A sourcle close to the production team revealed, "While the political drama is still on, senior and new leaders in the Shiv Sena also feel that there needs to be a second part releasing soon so that Maharashtra residents realise Balasaheb Thackeray’s contribution to Maharashtra, and the kind of work he has done for Maharashtra through the Sena. Once that happens, it will help the Sena further in elections to come.
It was also reported that Sanjay had filmed some parts for the sequel a few weeks ago so that he could get a trailer ready for the audiences. While no news of that has been confirmed yet, an official announcement with Nawazuddin reprising his role could be expected sometime soon. Prior to the release of Thackeray, it was reported that Sanjay and director Abhijeet Panse had a fall out. And as of now, no news of who will be directing the sequel have been made either.
