Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Munnabhai and Circuit are arguably the most popular characters in Hindi cinema. Recently, the filmmaker was offered a massive sum by a leading international production house who wanted to buy the film's title. This included the rights to produce Munnabhai films, Munnabhai merchandise and also the rights to publish Munnabhai comics in the future. However the filmmaker has refused to part with it.
But what led to the international corporation zero in on Munnabhai? If insiders are to be believed, apparently the company conducted a survey in the industry where Munnabhai emerged as the most recalled movie franchise. The first two parts, Munnabhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munnabhai were huge hits while the third one (which is still in the scripting stage) is eagerly awaited.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra, however, is not keen that Munnabhai goes international and has reportedly refused the offer. And the reason is that he doesn't want the character which was so painstakingly created by him and Raju Hirani, to be commercialized.
