Mr India Trilogy: This is What Original Film's Director Has To Say

Shekhar Kapur revealed Ali Abbas Zafar is only using the title to get a big weekend. Bollywood fans cannot digest the fact that Mr India will be remade without late legendary actor Sridevi

Twitter remained divided when acclaimed filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar announced his plans of taking the cult classic trilogy Mr India forward. While he termed it as a big responsibility on his shoulders, some Bollywood fans could not digest the fact that a Mr India reboot would be made without late legendary actor Sridevi starring in the lead. Others however placed bets on whether Zafar would be able to do justice to the original and some even rooted for his decision. Amid all the mix views, Shekhar Kapur – the director of the original Mr India – has come out to slam Zafar and his team.

“No one has even asked me or mentioned to me about this film called Mr India 2. I can only guess that they using the title to get a big weekend. For they cannot use the characters/story without permission from the original creators of the film,” Shekhar tweeted on Tuesday morning. He was responding to a fan who expressed grave concern over Zafar’s upcoming remake.

The user even requested Kapur as well as Boney Kapoor to somehow stop the film from happening. “It is completely a bad idea. This film should not remade for its cult classic status. No one ever can match #Sridevi ji ‘s powerhouse performance and screen presence and #Amrish ji’s stealer act. It will fail vary badly. @shekharkapur Sir plz kuch karo. @BoneyKapoor Sir plzz,” read the post. When Zafar made the announcement regarding the Mr India trilogy yesterday, he tweeted, ““Excited to partner with @ZeeStudios_for an epic trilogy #MrIndia! It is a huge responsibility to carry forward an iconic character loved by everyone. Currently, working on the script, no actor has been locked till now. Once we lock the first draft of the script, casting begins!” Rumour has it that Katrina Kaif will be starring in the character of Sridevi. The 1987 hit also featured Anil Kapoor and Amrish Puri. We don’t know how we feel about this development either. What do you think?
