One of the biggest Bollywood films in recent times has been Vicky Kaushal’s Uri: The Surgical Strike. The war drama detailing India’s retaliation against the 2016 Uri attack by four heavily armed militants was released back in 2019 and was a box office hit. Vicky played Major Vihaan Singh of the Indian Army, heading the war mission. The film also starred Yami Gautaum, Paresh Rawal, Mohit Raina and Kirti Kulhari in vital roles. It also marked the directorial debut of Aditya Dhar.
Now, two years later, the film is being rereleased in cinemas across India in honour of the country’s Republic Day. Uri aroused the feelings of patriotism in the hearts of many Indians, which is why rereleasing it on Republic Day fits so perfectly. Trade analyst confirmed Taran Adarsh confirmed the news and tweeted: “Uri is back in cinemas. The film which won hearts and become the box office favourite of 2019 is back in cinemas on Republic Day.”
But this is also not the first time Uri is rereleasing. Earlier, after its initial release in January 2019, the film hit screens again in July 2019 for the 20th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas – the day when the Indian Army successfully took command of the areas in Kargil, which had been lost to Pakistan. The film won four National Awards including Best Director, Best Actor, Best Audiography and Best Background score.
