Riz Ahmed’s latest film, Sound Of Metal has won the ‘Editing BAFTA’ award at the British Academy Film Awards this year.
Mikkel E.G. Nielsen won the award for this category. The movie follows the story of a drummer who experiences hearing loss. The film did commercially well, and Riz Ahmed was nominated in the Leading Actor category for his performance in the film. Sadly he missed out to Anthony Hopkins in his role in The Father.
Upon winning, Mikkel said, “I am extremely honoured to receive this BAFTA award. I thank them for allowing me to be part of the journey of this amazing film. I would like to thank my amazing wife Judith and my kids.”
Sound of Metal was also nominated in the Best Sound, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor categories. The film was critically acclaimed and was referred to in numerous film lists in 2020. It was also nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
India’s rising star Adarsh Gourav also missed out in the Leading Actor category. He was nominated for his performance in The White Tiger.
The award show which took place virtually over the weekend saw a great selection of nominees compete for the change to win in their category.
Bafta put out a message saying, “Since we can’t have an ACTUAL red carpet at the #EEBAFTAs this year, let’s find out who you’re destined to walk the VIRTUAL red carpet with Take a screenshot to find out and post your match below!”
They also paid tribute to the late Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip by saying. “In light of The Duke of Edinburgh’s passing, The Duke of Cambridge will no longer be part of BAFTA programming this weekend. Our thoughts are with the Royal Family, to whom we offer our deepest sympathy at this time”.
