Motorola Launched a Flip Phone Again and the Internet Has Opinions

Motorola had a flip phone a long time ago and it’s got one again now. See what people have to say about it.

Motorola has finally launched its first foldable phone, Moto Razr 2019, which is inspired by the brand’s classic flip phone, Razr, from the 2000s. The design is different from Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X foldable phones as those phones fold like a book. Razr folds like a flip phone. It has a  6.2-inch pOLED foldable display (when completely open) with a 21:9 aspect ratio and 2,142×876 pixels resolution. It has a 2.7-inch OLED touchscreen when the phone is closed. With the phone’s launch in the US, netizens are excited and posting reviews online. Here’s what they are saying about the brand new Moto Razr:

Dr Ravi R Tripathi (@drravirt) tweeted, “I want #MotoRazr ... it's the next big thing for mobile tech.”

Several people were feeling nostalgic as the Moto Razr was an incredibly popular phone in the 2000s. Daniel Barcelo (@DanielHBarcelo) wrote, “Between #DisneyPlus and the revival of the #MotoRazr I'm having a nostalgia overdose and it feels great.”

Alok Hota (@AlokN_Hota) said, “10 years later, still is a Status Symbol. #razr2019 #MotoRazr.”

In terms of size, the Moto Razr is 72 x 172 x 6.9mm when unfolded and 72 x 94 x 14mm when folded. It weighs around 205 grams and is available in a Noir Black colour. Many Moto fans have been full of praise for the phone’s design. TechOdyssey (@AdamJMatlock) said, “I have been looking forward to this phone since the leaks started earlier this year. Such a fantastic design and I love the vertical fold, with no crease. I would love to get my hands on one to review. @MotorolaUS #MotorolaRAZR #razr2019 #MotoRazr.”

Another Twitter user, Arun Prabhudesai (@8ap) wrote, “Absolutely love the design of new #MotoRazr - A foldable phone that just looks right. It is not bulky and design looks functional - I cannot say the same about other foldable phones that we have seen till date! Love the chin too... It has done justice to Razr Legacy!”

Nishant Pathak (@NishantBareilly) tweeted, “#MotoRazr #MotorolaRAZR #Motorola The most impressive part about the RAZR is that when flipped open you can't tell that the screen folds.”

People are also debating on whether teh $1,499 price is too high for the new phone. Mike Jaber (@Jabber_Tech1) wrote, “The new #MotoRazr is cool but not $1500 cool.” He added, “But then again...I remember buying the black OG MotoRazr for $500 back in the day. So kinda the same price with inflation.”

The Moto Razr does not come with premium specifications, unlike other foldable phones, which is why some people were not too impressed.  Atulya Aman wrote, “Has a battery half the size of Galaxy Fold. Smaller display. 2 vs 6 cameras in the Fold. Has 2 year old SD710 compared to 855 in the Fold. People and reviewer's were moaning about Fold and called it overpriced? What would you call this now? #MotoRazr #GalaxyFold.”

The device runs on runs on Android Pie out-of-the-box and mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor, with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage. It has a 2,510mAh battery with 15W fast charging, and also has e-SIM. It has a 16-megapixel rear camera with  f/1.7, 1.22um, EIS, Dual Pixel autofocus (AF), Laser AF, Colour Correlated Temperature (CCT) and dual-LED flash. It also offers a 5-megapixel selfie camera on the inside with f/2.0, 1.12um, screen flash. Similar to Samsung Galaxy Fold, the cover screen content on the phone flows to the main display when it is fully opened. Users can play music, click selfies and respond to notifications via the cover. Moto Razr has been launched in the United States and will start shipping from January 2020.
