Mental Hai Kya Postponed Again? CBFC takes Indian Psychiatrist Society’s Objections Seriously
Has Mental Hai Kya been delayed again? The Indian Censor Board of Film Certification has taken serious note of the objections raised by the IPS regarding the film’s title
Upcoming film Mental Hai Kya has long been embroiled in controversy. From problems with the title to its release date, the Kangana Ranaut-starred seems to be jinxed. The film’s release has been postponed thrice already – from March to May to finally July. Now, the team has once again delayed the launch of the trailer which was supposed to be unveiled this week. This development has undoubtedly sparked speculations regarding the release date, previously slated for July 26, being pushed back yet again. Apparently, the Indian Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has taken serious note of the objections raised by the Indian Psychiatrist Society (IPS) regarding the film’s treatment of mental health conditions.
Directed by Prakash Kovelamudi and produced by Ekta Kapoor, the upcoming Bollywood film is a crime thriller with a hint of comedy. It stars Kangana opposite leading actor Rajkummar Rao. As its name suggests, Mental Hai Kya is centred on the subject of mental illness. Sharing a new motion poster of the film, Ekta on Tuesday took to social media and posted a disclaimer which read, “The film in no way marginalises the mental health community and the title of our film doesn’t intend to offend or disregard anyone’s sentiments. It’s a film that makes a larger point and is sensitive towards the issue of mental illness. The film is a fictional thriller that encourages you to celebrate your uniqueness and embrace your individuality.”
Echoing her sentiments, Kangana posted from her sister Rangoli’s Twitter handle, saying, “On behalf of Kangana all I want to say is that everyone will be proud of ‘Mental Hai Kya’. The topic and subject she has chosen will trigger relevant talk and discussions around the stigma." Speaking at a recent event, Rajkummar shared, "It’s an amazing script as it is a very quirky and different comedy. Kangana is such a powerhouse performer and we are coming together for the first time after ‘Queen’ along with Ekta Kapoor so it’s going to be a lot of fun.” The project is expected to rake in INR8 crore on the first day of its release, according to box office predictions. Moreover, the weekend box office collection is estimated between INR12 crore and INR15 crore. The total box office collection approximates in the range of INR30 crore and INR40crore.
