Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming release, Mental Hai Kya, has created a lot of buzz in the industry and has been subject to some controversy owing to its sensitive nature and story premise. The film stars Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao in leading roles and is being produced by Ekta Kapoor. Earlier,
members of the Indian Psychiatric Society (IPS) wrote to the CBFC seeking a change in the title of Mental Hai Kya. As per the letter, they objected to a "number of issues", as the film appears to violate many sections of the Mental Health Care Act, 2017.
As per new information provided by Kangana Ranaut, the title Mental Hai Kya, will be changed slightly because the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) finds it “a little harsh.” She added that other than the title, the CBFC did not object to anything else in the film.
A video was recently shared on Instagram in which Kangana speaks about the update on the film. "Well, there will be a small change in the title of the film because they (CBFC) find it a bit too harsh. We are more than happy to do that. But other than that, there are absolutely no cuts and they were thrilled to see the film,” she said. Mental Hai Kya was cleared by the CBFC with a U/A certificate after minor changes and almost no cuts. The production house is all set to be unveiled the new title very soon.
Producer, Ekta Kapoor recently issued a disclaimer that Mental Hai Kya was not sensitive towards mental illness and did not intend to rub anyone the wrong way. "The film in no way marginalises the mental health community and the title of our film doesn't intend to disregard anyone's sentiments. It is sensitive towards the issue of mental illness," she tweeted.
