Meghan Markle and Prince Harry (basically Henry) got married in the year 2017. They have been the center of media and public attention even before they got married. This union was special for many reasons. Both Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had been public figures even before they started courting each other. In fact, Prince Harry has been facing the media since he was born to the royal household. The public is also interested in this royal couple as they broke many British royal norms: one of which was marrying a divorcee and a woman from a non-white descent.
However, this is not the only norm broken by the royal couple. In fact, this was just the beginning. Meghan Markle became pregnant shortly after getting married. The former American actress was always known for having a mind of her own. The couple separated from the Kensington palace before the birth of their first born son Archie. They decided to move to Frogmore Cottage in the Windsor Palace. Since it was an old building it required renovations and restorations. Being a royal the dearth of funds is never an issue hence the renovations started right away.
According to a rumour, the renovations cost $4.4 million which was majorly the taxpayer money from the Sovereign Grant. There was news of a separate lodge for Meghan’s mother Gloria and a floating yoga studio(Meghan being an avid yogi). According to Buckingham Palace, five cottages were joined to make one residence. Since the building was old, floors and ceilings needed to be replaced along with rewiring and gas/water main pipe installations. The palace made it clear that apart from the basic work, everything was paid for by the royal couple, Meghan Markle and Harry. In reality, there is neither Doria’s lodge nor a yoga studio. Also, it is the only residence that the couple owns. It is not their country residence.
