The annual Lux Style Awards took place over the weekend and surprisingly were smooth-sailing. With lack of drama and a surprise proposal, the #LSA2019 was in fact, more than what audiences were expecting. This year’s awards were marred by controversy, with many celebrities giving up their nomination and opting out of the awards entirely. Pakistani singers Meesha Shafi and Ali Zafar were central to the LSA controversy, both of whom were not present at the awards. With the awards done and dusted, Meesha Shafi has once again spoken up and shared her two cents on the matter.

Taking to Twitter a day after the awards ceremony took place in Pakistan, Meesha wanted to express her respect for all those nominees who took a stand.

“Post #LSA2019 I would like to express my respect and admiration for all those nominees who took a stand by foregoing their nominations/recognition for their hard work and achievements in protest and solidarity with myself and other victims,” she penned in her tweet.

Earlier, many had said that dropping out of the LSA’s was all part of an agenda, after which, Meesha’s lawyers had come under attack. In response, she had said, “Everyone who spoke up did so of their own free will. These attacks and conspiracy theories, albeit very creative, are baseless and going after all the women standing up for women is an entirely predictable age old silencing tactic. Nothing new!

Meesha then took to Twitter and lauded the efforts of all the nominees who protested and stood in solidarity with her and other victims of sexual harassment.

Earlier this month, Ali Zafar, who has been accused of sexual harassment by Meesha Shafi, recorded his statement in the defamation suit filed by Meesha. Ali Zafar is of the opinion that he respected women’s rights and fully supports the #MeToo movement but it has been used against him.
