Meesha Shafi and Ali Zafar’s case is one of the most high profile cases in the history of Pakistani Showbiz Industry. Meesha Shafi had accused Ali Zafar or sexually harassing her on more than two occasions. According to Meesha Shafi, she first tried to settle the issue with Ali Zafar in person but since he paid no heed she needed legal help. Meesha Shafi had to face great criticism and trolling as it is not usual in the desi societies for the women to stand up against sexual harassment especially when both the parties are famous celebrities.
According to the latest news, Meesha Shafi has filed a lawsuit of Rs. 2 billion against Ali Zafar. It includes Rs. 1 billion for the loss of goodwill and reputation and the remaining 1 billion for causing mental torture and agony. In addition to this lawsuit, Meesha Shafi also urged the court to declare Ali Zafar’s statements against her as false, defamatory and reputation hurting.
According to Meesha Shafi’s lawsuit,
‘It is prayed that the defendant (Zafar) be permanently restrained from making any further defamatory statement against the plaintiff (Shafi).’
‘Moreover, it has caused mental agony and anguish to the plaintiff and for which [the] defendant is now liable to pay damages.’
Ali Zafar had already filed a lawsuit of Rs. 1 billion against Meesha Shafi for falsely accusing him of sexual harassment.
According to Ali Zafar, he had suffered financial losses due to Meesha Shafi’s allegations against him. He said that he was also bullied on social media by the people who supported Meesha Shafi. According to Ali Zafar, his film Teefa In Trouble did not get the sponsors it deserved due to these allegations. The major sponsor had decided to hold the payment back until the final verdict. Ali Zafar also lost a few band endorsements. He stated that Meesha Shafi's allegations against him had misused the Me Too movement.
