Marjaavaan -- starring Sidharth Malhotra, Tara Sutaria and Riteish Deshmukh in lead roles -- had a decent opening at the box office on Friday, 15th November, and has been maintaining this momentum since then. It collected INR 7.03 crore on the first day and its total five-day earnings have reached INR 32.18 crore. Taran Adarsh, film trade analyst, reporting about the film’s earnings on Tuesday, wrote, “#Marjaavaan continues to trend well in mass markets... Eyes ₹ 38 cr [+/-] total in Week 1... Fri 7.03 cr, Sat 7.21 cr, Sun 10.18 cr, Mon 4.15 cr, Tue 3.61 cr. Total: ₹ 32.18 cr. #India biz.”
On the release day, the makers of Marjaavaan added a new song, Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram, to create a buzz about the movie, which is a story of unrequited love and revenge. However, there has been a continuous drop in the film’s collections, which is expected during the weekdays. It remains to be seen whether the film will pick up again over the second weekend and become a hit.
A still from Marjaavaan
Sidharth has previously been seen and appreciated as an action hero in Brothers and Ek Villain. The Milap Zaveri directorial has however received a lot of criticism from reviewers, who have said the movie is full of clichés and disappoints due to its ‘dated execution’ as the film reminds one of the 80s and 90s Hindi film era. However, the masses seem to be giving a more positive response as reflected by the current box office numbers. Milap’s next project is Satyameva Jayate 2 with John Abraham, which is slated to release on Gandhi Jayanti 2020. The first part, Satyameva Jayate, starring John Abraham and Manoj Bajpayee, which was also directed by Milap, released in 2018 and emerged as a box office success.
