The Kangana Ranaut starrer Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi has been in the news for several reasons - from most people leaving the movie to the drastic increase in the budget due to delayed production plus other sundry controversies. However, that has resulted in it becoming one of the most anticipated films of 2019.

So what does the trailer tell us? From the valour of the queen to the bloodshed of war to the glory of motherhood, the film sings the praise of the warrior queen Manikarnika in the most fitting way. It also captures some shades of India's freedom struggle in ways that are bound to make you awestruck. The movie is a tribute to Rani Lakshmi Bai, who was the first to declare a war cry against the British and thus changed the course of the Indian Independence struggle.

But the question: Does Kangana work as the warrior queen? One word answer: yes. Kangana’s Rani Lakshmi Bai is a regal yet fierce character. We see her don many shades, from a bubbly and fun girl who is loved by all to a mother and warrior who will sacrifice anything including her life for her country and its people. The war bits in the film remind you of Padmaavat and Bajirao Mastani for obvious reasons although some parts surely leave you with goosebumps! Kangana has given the role her all and it ’s obvious from the trailer. Her accent fits the part too.

Another important character is that of Ankita Lokhande who is seen playing her confidant, Jhalkari Bai. She is impressive. In the few glimpses that we see of her in the trailer, leaves you wanting for more.
