Mahira Khan is one of the most celebrated actresses of Pakistan. She has represented Pakistan globally on platforms like Cannes Film Festival, UNICEF and BBC. Mahira Khan’s stardom is unparalleled by most of her contemporaries. The dove eyed beauty gained fame through her popular drama ‘Humsafar’ and since then there is no looking back. However, Mahira Khan has often been surrounded by controversies that come both from her personal and professional life. She was recently criticized by the veteran actor Firdous Jamal in a TV show for her acting skills and growing age. The actor believed Mahira Khan was not fit to be a heroine.

Firdous Jamal’s comments were both supported and opposed by many. While Mahira Khan’s critics believed the actor was justified in his criticism, her supporters considered it a sexist and misogynist perception that only wants to see women on screen when they are below a certain age. Traditionally heroes from all age groups have been working in the industry while heroines have been expected not to cross certain age and looks standards. Many celebrities also came out in the support of Mahira Khan calling out Firdous Jamal’s comments publicly.

Recently a statement has been made by Hamza Firdous, a young actor, who also happens to be the son of Firdous Jamal. According to Hamza, his opinion differs from that of his father.

Hamza believed that Mahira Khan is an admirable actress who has represented Pakistan globally. Hamza said that the difference of opinion should be celebrated. However, Hamza also quoted the 45 years’ contribution of his father Firdous Jamal towards the Pakistani showbiz industry. Hamza clarified that if his father was misogynist he would not have appreciated actresses like Sania Saeed, Saba Qamar and Mehwish Hayat in the same show.
