The nightingale of India and one of the most melodious voices of all time, Lata Mangeshkar, had well-wishers praying for her healthiness in every part of the world this week. The 90-year-old artist, who was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital in the wee hours of Monday morning after complaining about breathing difficulties, is fortunately on the road to recovery. While her fans and loved ones have been impatiently waiting for an update on her health, the singer’s team has now released a statement.  “Dear Friends. We are as happy as you are to inform you that with all your prayers and best wishes, Lata didi is doing much better. Thank You for being there. God is great,” it read.

Her spokesperson Anusha Srinivasan Iyer quashed rumours surrounding her deteriorating condition, writing, “Lata didi is stable and getting better. Request to not pay heed to needless rumours and react. Let us all collectively pray for her long life instead.” She then expressed her gratefulness to Lata’s fan base for their continuous love and supporting in this testing time. “We thank each one of you, for your concern, care and prayers!”

On Tuesday, Lata’s team had released another statement about her health. “Her parameters are good. Honestly speaking, she has fought so well that she is coming out of this setback. Being a singer, her lung capacity has pulled her through. Truly a fighter. We will update everyone when Lataji gets discharged and comes home. We request that we give the family the space they deserve at the moment.” Meanwhile, Lata’s niece Rachana Shah told The Indian Express, “She is not critical. In fact, stable and recovering. She was down with a viral infection but is now on the path of recovery. She will be fine soon. We could have treated her at home. But we decided to get her to the hospital. It’s close to our home plus treatment is thorough.”
