Lata Mangeshkar, Anil Kapoor, Akshay Kumar and Other Celebs Mourn Former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit

Actors Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor and singers Mika and Lata Mangeshkar lead Bollywood in offering condolences on the death of former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit.

Many Bollywood celebrities including actor Anil Kapoor, Akshay Kumar and singer Lata Mangeshkar poured in condolence messages over the death of former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit. She passed away over the weekend on Saturday afternoon after suffering a cardiac arrest at the age of 81. “Was deeply saddened to hear about Sheila ji’s demise. A remarkable woman, former CM of New Delhi and a keen admirer of all art forms. We never discussed politics but had long talks on music and poetry. May her soul rest in peace and heartfelt condolences to her family,” wrote Lata Mangeshkar on Twitter.

Akshay Kumar also took to his social media handle on Twitter to condole Dixit’s death. “Extremely sad to know about the passing away of #SheilaDixitji...she effectively changed the face of Delhi during her tenure. Heartfelt condolences to her family,” he stated. Anil Kapoor also wrote an emotional message on Dikshit’s death and shared her achievements. “Awarded with ‘Best CM of India', ‘Politician of the Year' and 'Delhi Women of the Decade Achievers Award 2013’. Sheila Dixit was not only a great politician but an amazing human being as well. Lucky to have met her. She will be truly missed by the country,” he had stated.

Actors Raveena Tandon and Bhumi Pednekar have also mourned Dikshit's death. Tandon wrote on Twitter, "Respect and prayers. Condolences to her family.Was a much respected and loved CM. Brought about a positive visible change in Delhi during her tenure. Rest in peace #sheiladixit . Om Shanti."

Bhumi offered her condolences as well: "Loss of a great leader...You were really loved #ShielaDikshit ma’am. A huge loss to our country. You’ve really left behind a great legacy. May your soul rest in peace. My condolences to the family."

Dikshit served as the Delhi chief minister for 15 years from 1998-2013 apart from serving as a governor in Kerala. She was the president of Delhi Congress. The first time she became a MP was in 1984 from a Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh. She was considered a close aide of former Indian prime minister Rajiv Gandhi and was a minister in his cabinet. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind were the first ones to pay their respects to Sheila Dikshit.
