LaShawn Daniels, Grammy award-winning songwriter, met with a fatal car accident in Southern Carolina on Wednesday, 4th September. The 41-year old wrote songs for several famous artists, including Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Michael Jackson, and won the Grammy Award for Best R&B song in 2001 for Say My Name, Destiny Child’s hit single. He also received another Grammy nomination in 2014, in the same category, for the song Love and War by Tamar Braxton. Sharing the news of his sudden demise, his wife April Daniels, wrote in a statement on Instagram, “It is with deep and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, family member and friend LaShawn Daniels, who was the victim of a fatal car accident in South Carolina,” she said, adding, “A Grammy Award-winning producer and songwriter, Daniels was a man of extraordinary faith and a pillar in our family. We would like to express our sincere appreciation for the continuous outpouring of love and sympathy.”
Musician Kirk Franklin, expressing his grief on Twitter, wrote, “I’m sorry.... I can’t let this LaShawn Daniels loss go yet.... just let heaven be real.....” and also said, “The entire music community is feeling the loss of one of the greatest to ever do it. LaShawnDaniels ... we just stood together a week ago. No words.”

Tributes have started pouring in for the songwriter, who was known for his collaborations with the music producer Darkchild and also wrote many popular songs like Whitney Houston’s It’s Not Right But It’s Okay, Michael Jackson’s You Rock My World and Lady Gaga and Beyoncé’s Telephone. In the past couple of years, LaShawn had also been appearing regularly on the reality series Braxton Family Values and Tamar & Vince, along with his wife April.
