Scriptwriter Jyoti Kapoor has won the case against director-producer Kunal Kohli. The case was fought over copyright violation and breach of confidence, as there were many similarities between Kohli's under-production film Phir Se and Jyoti's script titled RSVP.
Kunal has called Jyoti an 'extortionist' and 'publicity hungry', so the court asked him to withdraw the defamation case. He also has to pay her a compensation of INR 25 lakhs, and give her credit for her story idea.
However, Kohli tweeted that he was happy that the matter had come to an end, and could now focus on releasing the film. "The judges asked us to go for a settlement and I agreed, as I don't believe in fighting with members of my fraternity. Judges felt that creative people should settle to promote creativity and culture. Case is finally over. Release date to be announed soon."
