It’s no surprise that Bollywood is often home to one controversy or the other. Whether it’s a new song, film or some comments a star had made, netizens are quick to speak against it citing a different issue now and then. Much like how Saandh Ki Aankh has been receiving flak for casting younger actresses as compared to those whose age actually matches that of the character, a song from Housefull 4 has also received some heavy criticism. However, one of the stars of the film, Kriti Sanon has come forth to defend Ek Chumma which features all the cast members of the upcoming comedy film.

Many film enthusiasts have been claiming that Ek Chumma from Housefull 4 is regressive and disrespectful towards women. But Kriti explained, “How is it regressive? The boys are saying those lines to their partner, not to a stranger. If Ek Chumma was disrespectful towards women, I would have spoken up.” She also stressed that objectification of men is never questioned. “In Tareefan from Veere Di Wedding, why was it not pointed that male models were being treated the way mainstream treats female models? In Coca Cola from Luka Chuppi, I was asked why the girl was being put down. But my character too was saying the same lines to the guy. How is it okay for a guy to be teased, but there’s so much talk when a girl is being teased?”

Housefull 4 marks Kriti’s first outing with the franchise. Speaking of the film, she shared, “This film is different from its predecessors because of the reincarnation twist. As an actress, my job is to do different things and cater to different audiences. It’s tough to make people laugh but I was fortunate to be surrounded by a talented bunch of people.” Directed and written by Farhad Samji, the film also stars Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde and Kriti Kharbanda. It is set in two timelines, 1419 and 2019 and is shot in various locations of London, Rajasthan and Mumbai. Themed around reincarnation, Housefull 4 is slated to hit screens on Diwali.
