Katrina Kaif, has been promoting Bharat and has left no stone unturned. In a recent interview with Rajeev Masand, Katrina finally addressed the controversy surrounding Priyanka Chopra walking out of Bharat and Salman Khan being rankled by it.
Says Katrina, “ You have to take Salman with a bucket of salt. He just says things, but doesn’t mean anything. Ofcourse there have been moments when even I had to bite my tongue during interviews. “
But what really caught our attention was when Katrina addressed the gender disparity in Bollywood. She was asked by Rajeev Masand, if a leading star would ever take on a supporting role to a leading actress. Katrina, shared her views with no holds barred. “This is an industry with a lot of friendships and relations and I think the industry should take this up. In my conversations with Aditya Chopra and Ali Abbas Zafar, I have told both of them to mount on projects with women. Be it two women, or having scripts involving lead actresses. There is a gender disparity and we need to address that. There are smaller films being made revolving around content, but we are yet to see a proper entertainer with female stars. One film is not going to bring down your studio.”
Ali Abbas Zafar who was also present during the interview said that if ever he has to make a Kill Bill, he would approach a leading lady and a big male star to complement the script. But I think we agree with Katrina, as big studios and film producers need to back films with female protagonists. It was heartening to see Katrina, talk about a subject usually women in Bollywood shy away from. Kat, took the bull by its horns and we couldn’t be more proud of her. Her film Bharat hits the screens on 5th June, which is also Eid and she will soon join the sets of Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi.
