Kartik Aaryan’s Pati, Patni Aur Woh: Director Mudassar Aziz Shares How this Remake is Different from the Original
Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Panday’s upcoming film Pati, Patni Aur Woh is a remake of the 1978 Hindi film of the same name.
Kartik Aaryan’s upcoming flick Pati, Patni Aur Woh, directed by Mudassar Aziz, is a remake of the 1978 Hindi film of the same, helmed by BR Chopra, which starred Sanjeev Kumar, Vidya Sinha and Ranjeeta Kaur in lead roles. The remake stars Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Panday as the female leads. As the makers unveiled the film’s first posters on 15th October, director Mudassar Aziz -- who has previously helmed films like Happy Bhag Jayegi -- spoke about the remake in comparison to the original movie, saying it would be different as his characters had undergone transformation over the past four decades. In an interview with Mid-Day, he said the film could be considered a ‘humble tribute’ rather than a remake.
“Modern-day relationships are based on different value systems. Hence, we turned things around on the concept level itself and re-wrote the plot. Our film shares nothing with the original other than its title and logline," he said.
The 1978 movie followed the story of pati (husband) Chintu Tyagi (Sanjeev Kumar), who is infatuated with his new secretary Nirmala (portrayed by Ranjeeta) despite being happily married to his patni (wife) Sharda (played by Vidya Sinha), and having a child with her. Mudassar said the remake also analyses the reasons behind infidelity in a ‘light-hearted manner’. He added that they had created a ‘brand new’ character for Kartik and Bhumi, and that Ananya’s character would be a ‘surprise package’. The film will be theatrically released on 6th December 2019 and, Kartik, Bhumi and Ananya recently walked the ramp at a fashion show in Mumbai to promote their characters in the film. Meanwhile, Kartik will also be seen in Imtiaz Ali’s next untitled romantic drama film, opposite Sara Ali Khan, which is scheduled for release on 14th February 2020.
