Bollywood is home to some of the biggest power couples of the world. One such couple is of Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan – and the two celebrate their 7th wedding anniversary today. The two tied the knot in a close-knit ceremony in Mumbai on October 16, 2012. But despite being a family affair, the much-awaited wedding of the time was one that made headlines – and still does today.
Prior to the celebrations, Saif and Kareena got their marriage registered, which was followed by a non-traditional ceremony later in the evening at the Taj Mahal Hotel. Belonging to two different religions, wherein Kareena is a Hindu and Saif is a Muslim, the couple decided to exchange vows as the ceremony continued till 3am.
Speaking of the unique exchange of vows, designer Manish Malhotra had said, “There were no nikkah or ‘saat pheras’. They did not adhere to any particular style of wedding.” Even Kareena’s father and actor, Randhir Kapoor had commented, “I request all fans of Kareena and Saif to wish the couple a happy marriage. We are happy that they married without any conversion. Here two lovers have got married and they are two lovely people.”
Kareena wore an heirloom lehenga that her mother-in-law and actress, Sharmila Tagore wore to her wedding. It was, however, restored by Ritu Kumar and turned into a kurta along with a farshi pajama and dupatta. The following wedding party was attended by the couple’s close friends and family. This included Karisma Kapoor, Soha Ali Khan, Kunal Khemu, Sonam Kapoor, Preity Zinta, Shah Rukh Khan and several others.
Karisma also danced on stage along with cousin, Ranbir Kapoor. Recalling the ceremony, Karisma also once shared that Saif had presented her with a special gift. She shared, “He gave me a pair of earrings that is a cherished possession even today.” Saif’s children, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan, from his first wife, were also a part of the festivities. As of now, Kareena and Saif have a two-year-old son, Taimur Ali Khan – who is a paparazzi favourite.
