Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan

For those hopeful romantics waiting to see Bollywood’s beautiful couple Kareena and Saif Ali Khan together again in the near future, you will have to wait much longer. Because Kareena and Saif are NOT coming together in Nithin Kakkad’s Jawaani Jaan-e-Mann, as reported in an over-enthusiastic section of the press. Clarifying this Saif said, “There’s no Kareena in Jawani Jaan-e-Mann. It’s just a rumour.”

Digging deeper, we discovered why Saif and Kareena want to avoid each other on screen until the occasion is impeccably opportune. Says a source, “Their films together before and after marriage like LOC Kargil, Tashan, Kurbaan and Agent Vinod have been disastrous at the box-office. Nowadays with the couple being constantly exposed in the media, social or otherwise, both Saif and Kareena feel the audience is in no mood to pay money to see them on the large screen unless the provocation is really intense. They will work together only when something extraordinary comes their way.”

The same rationale underlines Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and her husband Abhishek’s decision to not work together. In fact the only film Gulab Jamun that they signed together in recent times has now been shelved.

There have been only very few instances when a real life couple has spelt magic on the big screen as well. Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone are the rare exception. All their films – Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat have been superhits. Now, they will be seen together in 83 as well. But this will be the first time they will be sharing screen space after they tied the knot. Can they break the jinx of married couples not proving to be a hit on the big screen?
