1. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham
Kareena in K3G
The 2001 film made Kareena the popular Poo! While everything about the Karan Johar-helmed film was a roaring success (case in point: grandeur sets, memorable music and stellar direction), Kareena stood out from the lot. Her chemistry with co-star Hrithik Roshan was lauded by audiences and critics alike and despite working with superstar contemporaries such as Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol and veterans like Amitabh Bachchan, Kareena held her own in the block buster. A Hindi classic and the favourite of all millennial kids, K3G took Kareena’s career to even greater heights.
Kareena in Bodyguard
While starring opposite the great Khans of B-town is considered to be an achievement in itself, Kareena landed several opportunities in the early stages of her career. Speaking about Salman Khan, she worked with him in movies such as Kyon Ki and Main Aurr Mrs Khanna before this one landed in her kitty. With the 2011 film, Kareena knocked it out of the park as did Salman. Bodyguard – the remake of Siddique's Malayalam film of the same name – flew high at the ticket counters. It also broke several records at the box office. Salman essays Kareena's bodyguard in the film who is hired to protect her from gangsters. She eventually falls in love with him and through a case of mistaken identities, reunites with him after many years. We can watch it over and over and over again!
3. 3 Idiots
Kareena in 3 Idiots
She may not have played the lead role in this super hit film but her character was important in laying the foundation of the film. Kareena is the principal’s (Boman Irani) daughter who encounters many funny experiences with Aamir Khan and his gang. The film is emotional yet witty, teaches one a lot of lessons and keeps audiences hooked till the end. The coming-of-age comedy drama was directed by Rajkummar Hirani and released in 2009. The film follows the friendship of three students at an Indian engineering college and is a satire about the social pressures under an Indian education system. Did you know: 3 Idiots won six Filmfare awards!
4. Golmaal 3
Kareena in Golmaal 3
Kareena shares a unique bond with Rohit Shetty. The director of the Golmaal franchise like to rope her in for his projects too! The 2010 Indian Hindi-language action comedy film is the sequel to the 2008 film Golmaal Returns and the third film in the series. Even though the super hit flick starred a lot of actors like Ajay Devgn, Mithun Chakraborty, Arshad Warsi, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Khemmu, Tusshar Kapoor and Johnny Lever, Kareena’s role had its own vibe to it – both fun and energetic! She became known amongst the film fraternity and her fans as the famous Daboo. Did you know: In real life, Kareena’s father Randhir Kapoor’s nickname is Daboo. How cute is that?
5. Jab We Met
Kareena in Jab We Met
She starred in the film opposite her former flame Shahid Kapoor and set thousands of hearts on fire! The project was an astounding success and was touted as a cult film. From Kareena’s Punjabi girl accent to the popular Mauja Hi Mauja moves (just thinking about them is making us want to start dancing!), the project hit all the right notes at the box office. Kareena was praised for her versatility as was Shahid. She even took home a Filmfare for Best Actress. Jab We Met centres on Aditya, a heartbroken business tycoon who pointlessly boards a train to escape his depressing life. He meets Geet, a bubbly Punjabi girl, and gets pulled into her crazy life. That’s where their love story takes off from!
6. Ra. One
Kareena in Ra. One
Kareena starred opposite King Khan Shah Rukh Khan in the film. Her role was appreciated far and wide. Shah Rukh’s character would not have been complete without Kareena and vice versa. The 2011 superhero film directed by Anubhav Sinha received mixed reviews, with critics praising the visual effects, action sequences, music, and the performances of Khan and Kareena, but criticising the script, direction, and screenplay. Commercially, the film became the third highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2011 domestically, the second highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2011 worldwide and broke a number of opening box office records. It was considered a hit! And who can forget Kareena shaking a leg to Chammak Challo? No one!
Kareena in Talaash
There was a time when Kareena said that Aamir was her lucky mascot; first because of Talaash and then 3 idiots. Just like the latter, Talaash was a big success too. Kareena may not have played a full-on lead role in it but her part was extremely crucial for Aamir’s character. The project also featured Rani Mukerji becoming one of the highest-grossing Indian films of 2012. One of the songs from the film, Jee Le Zaraa also proved to be a chartbuster.
Well, Kareena has starred in multiple blockbusters since her debut in Indian cinema. She is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after stars in Bollywood today and has earned global recognition too. Her style statements, photoshoots, commercials, film projects and ramp walks are always a visual treat for fans like us!
