Karan Johar has decided to fly away to New York to celebrate his 47th birthday. Karan is known to have lavish birthday parties of his own in Mumbai. But for some strange reason, this year he has decided against it. Karan turns 47 on May 25. "Karan will be spending some time alone. He doesn't want to interact with the media at this time. That is the reason he has decided to spend a few days alone in New York," said a source.

However, some of his best friends are also following him to New York and they are going to have a party in the big Apple on his birthday. "There will be a few of his closest friends who is flying with him there. Nobody knows the list but we hear that Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan are planning to join Karan along with their partners," the source added.

Meanwhile Karan's last outing, Student Of The Year 2, failed to take off after a flying start. "Dharma Productions’ big-ticket film Student of the Year 2 has turned out to be a lacklustre affair at the box-office. The campus drama, on its second Sunday, added Rs 2.75 crore more to its account. After a 10-day run in cinemas, its total collection stands at Rs 64.52 crore. In the second weekend, the film could not collect more than Rs 6.62 crore, which clearly hints that it does not have many takers left," Times Now reported.

Karan is also geared up to don the director's hat once again in Takht which boasts of an ensemble star cast consisting of Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Bhumi Pednekar, Janhvi Kapoor and Anil Kapoor in pivotal roles. His last multi-starrer Kalank also failed to set the cash registers ringing at the box-office.
