Bollywood celebs have been taking part in the Durga Puja festivities in India, paying homage to the Hindu goddess Durga. On the last day of the festival, Karan Johar got together with the Mukerji family, including actresses Kajol, Rani Mukerji and Tanishaa Mukerji, and director Ayan Mukerji, to participate in the Sindur Khela ceremony. Also known as the ‘vermillion game’, this is a Bengali Hindu tradition in which people cover each other’s faces with sindur. Tanisha Mukerji, shared a picture from the ceremony, where she can be seen sitting with Karan, Kajol, Rani and others. Sporting a traditional Indian look, Kajol wore a bright yellow sari while Rani was clad in a black-and-white sari and Tanishaa wore pink.
Meanwhile, then men, including Karan and Ayan, were dressed in simple white kurta pajamas. Karan is currently producing a film directed by Ayan Mukerjee. Titled Brahmastra, the film is set in contemporary times but based on Hindu mythology. It follows the story of a reluctant hero, Shiva, who embarks on a journey of self-discovery and love. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan in lead roles and is slated to release on 25th December 2019. Two of the lead actors of the film, Alia and Amitabh, also made an appearance at the Durga Puja festivities organised by the Mukerji family.
Other celebrities elsewhere also participated in the festival and the Sindoor Khela ceremony elsewhere. Actress Bipasha Basu took part in this popular ritual with her family. Posting a picture with her sisters -- who are all dressed in red saris, with Bipasha in a red-and-white sari -- she wrote on Instagram, “First sindoor khela after marriage with my sisters. Miss you Ma and Papa #durgadurga.” Sushmita Sen also posted a picture on Instagram, wishing her fans a Happy Dussehra.
